To me, Martial Arts means
honestly expressing yourself.

CONTACT INFO Sensei Blair Purdy

Located in King Township, north of Toronto, the Purdy Center for the Arts offers a traditional and modern training facility for beginner and advanced students. Classes focus on helping students develop confidence through practical application of martial arts.  Exercises are designed to help increase flexibility, strength, balance and energy flow. Exploration of self defence concepts and strategies will help the student reach their personal goals and lay a strong foundation for a balanced and centred lifestyle.

Sensei Blair Purdy began training at age 4 under the Guidance of his father, Kyoshi J Purdy, Head Instructor of Canadian Naha-te Goju Karate. At age 16, Sensei Blair was awarded his Black Belt (Shodan) with the Canada Goju Karate Association.  In 1992, Sensei Blair was of three students that Kyoshi J brought to Okinawa, Japan to train  with Hanshi Meitatsu Yagi at the Meibukan Dojo in Naha City.  During this trip, Sensei Blair was fortunate to receive instruction from Dai Sensei Meitoku Yagi, the direct successor to Chojun Miyagi, founder of the Goju style of Karate.

In 1999, Sensei Blair founded "Martial Movement" with Tyler Quick, a unique martial arts concept taught at Bally Fitness and other sports clubs in the Greater Toronto Area. Martial Movement also brought a women's self defence program to the Scarborough Board of Education, teaching seminars to groups of high school students.

Sensei Blair now offers private and group instruction for all ages in a number of locations around the GTA, but is focused on regular classes at the Purdy Center for the Arts.  Sensei Blair's no-nonsense approach to self-defence allows a uniquely modern perspective on traditional martial arts.  "It's not about laying your hands on someone else ... It's all about keeping someone else's hands off of you."
